Indulge in a World of Flavors and Health Benefits

History has it that tea was first discovered in ancient China 5,000 years ago.  An emperor, had a few tea leaves accidently blow into his pot of boiling water and the delightful aroma which then emerged from the pot of water intrigued the emperor and he tasted it.  This then began the popularity of the beverage and during the 4^th and 8^th century tea became an everyday drink for enjoyment and refreshment.  In the United States, tea gained popularity during the second half of the 18^th century.  It was then the largest and most expensive product exported by England.  In 1904, during the Louis World trade fair, iced tea was invented.  The concoction of iced tea is now unquestionably popular in the United States and approximately 50 billion glasses are consumed each year.

     Jijivisha teas is a small female owned tea business located in Las Vegas, NV, with the goal to provide customers with teas that are health beneficial, affordable, and delicious.  Tea is one of the most consumed beverages in the world and the custom of drinking tea is a simple, yet satisfying process, which is practiced by many worldwide.  Teas that will be available to the customer will consist of herbals, green, and black teas, with the option of both loose leaf and or tea bags.  The variation of my tea menu will focus on this assumption, that there is a selection for all palates and disposition.

    Jijivisha is a word in the Hindi language.  My paternal ancestors, migrated from India to the West Indies to work on the sugar cane fields and spoke Hindi.  I often wish I had embraced my origins and learned a little more of this language, while my grandmother was still alive.  Thus, I went to my origins and learned words from this language before coming across the word Jijivisha.  The word, interpreted means…”to keep living life to your fullest, regardless of the obstacles and challenges we may encounter in our daily lives.”  This immediately gained my attention, as I felt it described what I have observed within myself and those I love.

     So, what made me decide on the business enterprise of the tea world?  Lin Yutang, the Chinese novelist, and inventor once stated “There is something in the nature of tea that leads us into a world of quiet contemplation of life.”  This quote best describes the peace and tranquility that can emerge from having a cup of tea.  In the morning, evening, or during the day, treating yourself to a cup of tea can inspire a peaceful time, it may be for a few moments, but sometimes that is all that is needed.  After finishing college with a degree in both mental health and human services, I learned the importance of selfcare, self-reflecting and just overall self-awareness.

     The practice of tea consumption is a healthier alternative to many sugary drinks available, such as sodas, sports drinks, etc.  Therefore, the claims made of the health benefits associated with various teas makes it apparent to enjoy this beverage, hot or cold, without the guilty feelings. Some of these health benefits are; the boosting of energy, supporting mental health, and aiding in both digestion and weight loss.

     The selection of teas chosen to present are not only of a high quality and delicious, but there is also a vast selection.  Three countries I have chosen to include onto my list are China, Japan, and India.  These countries, are known for offering teas with character.  Also offered is an herbal selection, for those abstaining from caffeine and blended selections.  I have included with the herbals, “Jane’s soother” named after my fur baby and consists of ingredients such as licorice, cloves, and peppermint.  This is great choice for comforting and relaxing during stressful times.  There is also a Moroccan Mint tea available, that is an especially good tea for after dinner and aids in indigestion and bloating.

     The goal as a small business tea owner is to introduce the world of teas to the consumer with a simple, yet overall enticing menu. The teas offered at Jijivisha Teas are some of the best teas on the market and catered to those who may have recently started tea consumption, or those experienced.  All teas on the menu can be served either hot or cold and come packed in 2 oz packages and each of these tins can produced 16 to 18 cups of tea. 

Growing up in the West Indies as a child, tea was a part of everyday life and enjoyed every night with family and friends.  As an adult, the gratification of enjoying various teas through exposure to diverse cultures and traveling, has been noteworthy.  The experience of enjoying an unfamiliar cup of tea brings a sense of peace within, as well as an overall good feeling.  I hope through my exposure to these fascinating cultures, Jijivisha teas can assist you in gaining those same feelings and experiences.
